Executive Board meeting 04/30/01
Called to order at 5:30
Officers present: Frank Janaszak, Larry Bartlett, Linda Hagen, Barb Cannon, Mel Cannon, Ed Alcock, Joe Marron, Jeff Strottmann, Bob Huber, Carl Boudreau Nancy Pruess. Mark Grover, Brian Frei, Mary Jo Daly,

Presidents report: President Alcock reported on three items of correspondence. A letter of thanks from the organizers of the Special Olympics for the money we donated to them. A notice of a labor center class on workers compensation law, which was discussed and will be addressed in the membership meeting. The crisis center wrote us to ask for a donation and to publicize their benefit breakfast.
Treasurers report:
Treasurer Huber reported that expenses were relatively high this month as we paid quartlerly taxes. We are basically caught up with bills. Full report available at the office.
Motion Huber to reimburse himself $41.99 for office supplies. 2nd B. Cannon. MC
Motion Huber 2nd Boudreau to extend Mary Larews employment at the office through December 2001. MC
Bob got four stewards handbooks at his own expense from the international for the locals evaluation. The question was raised as to whether this info is available on cd-rom. Ed will check it out.
Motion to accept treasurers report. 2nd MC
New Business:
Clerical Committee will resume meeting in Sept. Discussion of training around ergonomics and scope of availability of training to UI employees. Issue will be raised at membership meeting.
Carl reported on further analysis of job data, postings and referral dispostitions.
Motion Strottmann 2nd Marron to send a letter to JayCo , which is the hospital accreditation organization, requesting consultation with local 12 prior to and during the next inspection of UIHC. MC
Ed will check out the time of the next stewards training.
Jeff reported on recent OSHA citations at UIHC
Much discussion of process of how local 12 makes appointments to health and safety committees. Motion Huber 2nd Janaszak that a letter be sent to Jackson, Leventry, Maggie Van Ohls and David Grady instructing them that committee appointments affecting merit staff will go through the President of Local 12. MC
Motion Janaszak 2nd M. Cannon that Tom Dewey be given a AFSCME watch to mark his retirement. MC
Good and Welfare:
The local is encouraged to attend the Crisis Center annual all you can eat benefit breakfast this Sunday May 6th from 8:00am to 1:00 pm. at St. Wenceslaus Church at 618 E. Davenport St. in Iowa City. Adult tickets are a $6 donation, childeren under 12 are a $4 donation.
