Executive Board meeting 06/04/01

 

Called to order at 5:30

Officers present: Frank Janaszak, Larry Bartlett, Linda Hagen, Barb Cannon, Mel Cannon, Ed Alcock, Joe Marron, Jeff Strottmann, Bob Huber, Carl Boudreau, Gene Newmire, Mary Jo Daly, Jim Walters

Officers absent Nancy Pruess. Mark Grover, Brian Frei, Steve Johnson

President’s report: President Alcock reported on budget meetings with John Amen and John De Vries. This led to a general discussion of the Local’s role in influencing the outcomes being planned. The meetings are designed to keep us "in the loop" but outside of any decision-making process. The University’s exclusionary policy was contrasted with the "Partners in Progress" program for employee involvement that was developed by the Governor’s office.

Motion Walters 2nd Strottmann that we draft a letter to the Board of Regents requesting that we be provided input on the pending audit of the Regent’s system. MC

Treasurer’s report: Treasure Huber presented his report of local expenditures. The full report is available at the office. Budget committee reported projected budget categories. There was discussion of the work done by our CPA.

Old Business: Strottmann reported on the doings of City Fed. AFSCME local 183 held a hugely successful fundraiser at the Moose hall.

There is a possible picket line call this coming Saturday from the Teamsters at Blooming Prairie.

New Business: Jim Walters announced a party to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Labor Party this Saturday June 9th from 4-7 PM at his home at 1033 E. Washington St. in Iowa City. A chance to get together and to discuss the Labor Party’s platform and programs.
